Lords and Ladies Newsletter East: February 2012

January Happenings: Throughout January we have been busy exploring a variety of topics including balloon art, snow and ice, snowy animals, and the Chinese New Year.  The children especially loved learning about the different states of matter such as what happens to ice when it gets hot.  We learned about snowy animals including moose and snowy owls among others.  Lastly, we learned about the year of the dragon during our Chinese New Year week as we made a number dragon, lanterns, and ended the week with a dragon parade.

Valentine’s Day Party: We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on Tuesday, February 14th, at 3pm.  We love celebrations here at the Academy!  Such holidays present wonderful opportunities to discuss being thankful for our friends and families.  Please feel free to attend the party with your child.  If you would like to bring a healthy treat, juice or party plates, I will be posting a sign-up sheet on our classroom front door.  Please, however, do not feel obligated to do so.

Sweets with Your Sweetie: We would like to extend an invitation to all parents to spend time sharing breakfast with your sweetie on February 14th from 7:00am – 9:00am in the Sentries room during our annual Sweets with Your Sweetie breakfast.  We look forward to seeing you and your sweetheart for this special occasion!

Academy Closings

The Academy will be closed Monday, February 20th, in observance of Presidents’ Day.  We hope you enjoy the extra time with your family and friends.

Old T-Shirts

In Lords and Ladies we participate in quite a few “messy” activities from art activities such as painting to eating “messy” foods like spaghetti.  As the children quite thoroughly enjoy these activities, we are asking for donations of any old t-shirts you may have around your homes.

Developmental Goals: Phase III

We have recently begun phase III of our developmental goals.  During phase III we will be focusing on counting 1-10, learning new letters, clearly communicating our needs, and holding a pencil correctly among many other goals.

The Lords and Ladies have I have enjoyed getting to know the Lords and Ladies and their families better this past January!  I am looking forward to spending more time with your children as we continue to learn and grow throughout the month of February.  As always, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to speak with Mr. Jordan or us.
