Helping with Self Control

When your child is angry or having a tantrum, we will try to get them to redirect their emotions to an appropriate level. There are many ways we can assist them in calming down. Some techniques we use in the classroom are deep breathing, counting, blowing up a balloon (older children only), or take a break and walk away. Of course after they are calmer, discuss replacement behaviors that would have brought about a more suitable outcome. Always remind your child, “It is okay to be angry, however screaming is not. Next time try ___________.”
