Summer Time Fun

There are many fun activities that the warmer weather allows us to enjoy. Trips to the pool or splash pad, fishing trips, visits to the park, backyard barbecues, etc. The trouble we often experience in such situations is our children get so excited; they have a difficult time controlling their behavior. Use the same principles of PBS that work in other situations, and I think you will have a smoother go of it! Before the trip or activity, tell your child of your expectations. Pretend play with them and role play the situation with them. If they forget to follow your rules, remind them and if that does not work help them practice how that should look. Do not forget to recognize and give appropriate positive feedback when they are doing what you ask!
