Lords and Ladies Newsletter East: May 2011

April Happenings

The Lords and Ladies have been hard at work and play throughout the month of April as we have sprung into this new season of the year.  We have been learning about baby animals, the frog life cycle, and the water cycle as our surroundings have been changing with the warmer weather.  We will continue to learn about such topics throughout May as we watch  tadpoles in the Dukes and Duchesses’ room grow into frogs!

Reading and Writing

The Lords and Ladies have continued working on their letters throughout April.  In addition to learning to recognize the letter, the children have also been practicing their fine motor control as we have been working on writing the letters.  We have also begun learning to read a new word each week including “at” and “go”.  Your children continue to amaze me as they grow and change each day.

Muffins with Mom

Happy Mother’s Day!  Please join your child in celebrating this special day by sharing a muffin on Friday, May 6th, from 7 am to 9 am.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

The Lords and Ladies class will be holding parent-teacher conferences Monday, May 2nd, and Tuesday, May 3rd.  Please anticipate the conference lasting about 15 minutes.  As conferences will be held during naptime this year, we will be meeting in the Dukes and Duchesses room located to the right of the front desk.  I look forward to being able to spend time with each of you to share what your child has been learning throughout the year!

Sunscreen and Outdoor Play

With the change in the season, we would like to ensure that your child is protected during our outdoor play.  Please remember to apply sunscreen to your child every morning before arriving at school.  We will be sure to reapply sunscreen following naptime for our afternoon outdoor playtime.    In addition, please be sure your child has a bottle of sunscreen at school along with the topical application form found in your child’s folder.  We look forward to spending many more days enjoying and exploring nature!

Spring Fling Extravaganza

The children showed great enthusiasm for the Academy Egg Hunt and our classroom Spring Fling Extravaganza.  The children decorated their own bag for the egg hunt and enjoyed springtime treats with their friends.  Thank you for your continued support of the fun educational endeavors of our classroom!

As always, please feel free to speak with either Mr. Jordan or myself should any concerns or questions arise.  I hope you enjoy the month of May and the beautiful weather!
