Pixies Newsletter East: February 2011

January Recap

January went by so quickly this year, it’s hard to believe it is already February! We had a great month focusing on literacy, and we hope you will enjoy your class books with your children at home. We also had some engaging sensory activities that the children seemed to really enjoy… I think one of their favorites was the colorful shredded paper! We look forward to another exciting month in the Pixies room!

Coming in February

As the weather gets colder outside, we will focus on fine and gross motor activities inside. We know young children need the opportunities to move and explore, and we hope to provide them with many great activities that will allow them to be beneficial to the development of their motor skills, as well as be a fun way to get them moving and help them use their energy in a positive way.

We will have opportunities for your children to work on climbing in various, guided, activities on the gross motor blocks and the small freestanding slide. Children will also climb through the long tunnel, and work on jumping, and walking. With fine motor skills, we hope to help children begin to learn how to feed themselves by independently grasping a spoon. We will also work with paintbrushes while painting instead of just using fingers. These activities are fun for children and help them get early exposure and practice for skills they will need later on in life.

Also, this month we have two students from Stephens College, Timetria and Nichole, beginning practicum work in our room in the mornings on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. They will be there to observe how a toddler classroom works, and we look forward to having them!

We will be having Spirit Fridays, each Friday this month, we hope everyone can participate!
