Establishing consistent routines can ward off inappropriate behavior. In the
classroom we establish the daily schedule and post a pictorial timeline for them to refer
to. By maintaining these routines, the children know what to expect and are less likely
to become upset by not getting their way throughout the day. While you are not likely
to make it quite as formal as we do in the classroom, the same theory will work in your
home life. By doing the same things, in the same order at approximately the same times,
your child will know what to expect and will be less likely to challenge particular tasks.q
