Lords and Ladies Newsletter East: July 2010

Dear Lords and Ladies Families,

Welcome to July at the Academy!  We are having a great time enjoying all that summer has to offer, especially taking care of our garden and our weekly water play. As it becomes warmer , it is a real treat to have cold popsicles outside in the heat.  Thank you to all of the families who have provided popsicles for the Lords & Ladies this summer.

The Academy will be closed on Monday, July 5th in observance of Independence Day.

Please remember to mark all of your child’s personal items. We can’t emphasize enough the importance of our teachers and families knowing whose items are whose.

Classroom Deck Door

Please remember to keep the door between our classroom and deck firmly closed.  It has frequently been found open, which makes it extremely difficult to keep our classroom at a comfortable temperature in the summer heat.  Please use the hallway door to access the deck.

Water Cups

It is extremely important for each child to have a sippy cup to use for water at school every day throughout the summer.  We take the water cups with us every time we go outside to help the children stay hydrated and safe in the heat.  There have been days when as many as half of our children did not bring a cup with them to school that day, and we run out of extra cups.

New Curriculum

The Lords and Ladies have moved into phase 4 of our curriculum. Being the final phase of the Academic year, phase 4 features a lot of review, skills, and practice. During the summer months, curriculum is a little more relaxed as we enjoy water play and outside time and do not have our enrichment classes, but we continue to support our students’ development through a variety of experiences.

Academy Picnic

The annual Academy Picnic will be held on August 6, 2010 from 6pm- 8pm at the East location. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Sincerely, Ms. Emily and Ms. Ellen
