Dropping your child off at pre-school

Do you ever have a difficult time separating from your child in the morning? There are things you can do to make that time of the day go smoother. As you arrive at school, quickly tell your child the steps that will occur in dropping off. (i.e. we will go in, walk to your room, put your coat on the hook, then I will give you a hug goodbye) Whatever your routine is, personalize it to fit. Then do it! This will help the power struggle for one more book, etc. Additionally, it is important to let your child walk to their own class. With the nasty weather, you might need to carry them into the building, but if they take over when you are inside, it gives your child the sense of control which can make the transition to their class so much smoother.
